Common Brake Symptoms

Recognizing symptoms early can help address minor concerns before they develop into major mechanical failures. Below are common indicators that may suggest your brakes require attention.

volume_up

Squeaking brakes

What you may notice: High-pitched squeaking when braking.

Possible causes: Worn brake pads, glazed pads or discs, dirt or rust on brake surfaces, or poor-quality pad materials.

gavel

Grinding noise

What you may notice: Metallic grinding sound when braking.

Possible causes: Severely worn brake pads (metal-on-metal), damaged brake discs, a stuck caliper, or foreign objects near the brake assembly.

Soft brake pedal

What you may notice: The brake pedal feels soft, spongy or travels too far.

Possible causes: Air in the brake lines, old or contaminated brake fluid, a brake fluid leak, or a failing master cylinder.

vibration

Vibration when braking

What you may notice: Steering wheel or pedal vibration during braking.

Possible causes: Warped brake discs, uneven disc surface wear, worn suspension parts, or wheel imbalance.

warning

ABS warning light

What you may notice: ABS or brake warning light appears on the dashboard.

Possible causes: ABS wheel speed sensor fault, damaged sensor wiring, an ABS control module issue, or low brake fluid.
